Summer is just around the corner and now that Spring has sprung, it’s a great time to start thinking about your Spring break for 2017! Why not take a short or even a long well deserved vacation.
A Spring break doesn’t always have to break the bank or take hours of planning – here are some of our favorites places to visit.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Far from solely a tourist beach resort, Puerto Vallarta is a seaside town with a rich cultural heritage and a fun nightlife scene. While it may attract the ‘Spring Break’ crowd, it is possible to spend a rewarding weekend avoiding the hordes and enjoying fresh seafood, cobblestone streets and golden sand beaches.
San Sebastian, Spain – This Basque city is the stuff that dreams are made of; a collection of ancient buildings scattered around the stunning La Concha beach. While the beauty of San Sebastian is worth the trip alone, it is the gastronomical scene that attracts foodies from around the world. Enjoy pinxtos (bite sized tapas) and good wine at the city’s countless small bars and cafes.
Montreal, Quebec – Looking for a bit of European style without leaving the continent? Consider a spring city break to Montreal. With its unique combination of Canadian and French flair, Montreal is one of the most interesting cities in North America. Stroll the streets of the old town, explore the delicious culinary scene (don’t miss poutine, the delicious combination of fries, gravy and melted cheese curds), and dance the night away at the city’s legendary night clubs.
Portland, Oregon – Hipsters unite! Portland’s hipsterfication may now be a part of the cultural zeitgeist, but it still offers visitors a whole host of interesting (and delicious) things to do. Visit Voodoo Doughnuts, drink craft beer from the hundreds of microbreweries and wander around the historic city center. Put a bird on it!
Bristol, UK – Bristol is fast becoming one of the trendiest cities in the UK, and it is well connected to London by rail and to many other European cities by air. Home to Banksy, Massive Attack and countless craft breweries, Bristol is a quaint city spread around the banks of the River Avon. Affordable and enchanting, take a street art walking tour and enjoy great food.
Tallinn, Estonia – Tallinn is one of Europe’s best kept secrets – if more people knew about its fairy tale Old Town and laid back vibe, it would be thronged with tourists! A cool mix of Scandinavian style and Baltic sensibilities, there is a lot to see and do in Estonia’s capital. Make sure you take a day trip to nearby Riga or Helsinki while you are here.
Providence, Rhode Island – If you daydream about salty breezes, fresh shellfish and historical walks through one of the oldest cities in the country, Providence is the town for you. From museums and important historical sites to pub life and performing arts, Providence makes an ideal short spring vacation for couples, friends or families.
Vancouver, BC– Vancouver is a ‘small big city’ – it’s small enough to see the best highlights in a few days, but big enough to boast world class dining and attractions. Sample some of North America’s best sushi and Chinese food, cycle the seawall around Stanley Park and take a walking tour of historic Gastown.
